Steam tf2 validating problem

Some games installed some small patches, no problem. However, now Black Ops and MW3 have the same problem. I'm now locked out of three games because steam won't boot them.

If you wish to support the event there is an ongoing fundraiser where you can donate money or purchase a range of items; money raised goes towards the production, prize pool, and supporting the North American team, Ascent. For the latest information, be sure to check out LAN.

Seeing how my laptop only had a small patch and it updated fine, I decided to uninstall TF2 and reinstall with a backup from my laptop.

I've done this before, no problem, it normally works. Despite several attempts to make a backup, the files on the DVD always corrupted and I couldn't reinstall the game, or even transfer the backup to my hard drive.

After messing with this all day Sunday (TF2 died on me on Thursday, but I didnt get around to fixing it for a few days because I installed a new 580 and was messing with it), I found out an alternate way of handling this is to copy and paste the files from my laptop directly into my steamapps folder. It just keeps validating the files without ever finding a problem with them, and it won't open up the game. I tried reinstalling TF2 again, this time via a backup I made and transferred over via the router instead of using DVDs. I removed all files from my steam folder except those in steamapps.

Since TF2 was currently uninstalled, I did this and then installed TF2. And, finally, and this was a big mistake I think, but I backed up my steamapps folder and then reinstalled steam.

You can do it manually from the properties tab by right clicking in the game list.
